Every year, 1.5 million wildebeest, 400,000 zebras, and 200,000 gazelles complete an 800km circular journey between Tanzania's Serengeti and Kenya's Maasai Mara in search of fresh grazing.
The Migration Cycle
- December-April: Southern Serengeti calving season (500,000+ births in 3 weeks)
- May-June: Movement northwest through Western Corridor
- July-October: Dramatic Mara River crossings (peak in August-September)
- November: Return south as rains begin
Why It's Unique
The migration is the last remaining large-scale mammal movement on Earth, unchanged since prehistoric times. The herds' precise navigation—guided by storms, moon cycles, and innate memory—remains one of nature's great mysteries.

Tour Insight
Prime Viewing: Our August tours focus on the Mara River crossings, where herds face crocodiles and strong currents. September offers the best photography as herds spread across Kenya's Maasai Mara.
Conservation Note: The migration route is protected by Serengeti National Park (Tanzania) and Maasai Mara National Reserve (Kenya), with tourism revenue funding anti-poaching efforts.
